VEEDERSBURG — William M. Oakley, 73, died Saturday morning in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette where he had been a patient 26 days. Mr. Oakley had worked for the Nickle Plate Railroad for 27 years. He was a member of the Christian Church at Bushton, Ill. A native of Morgan County, Ky., he was a son of John and Cora Childress Oakley. Surviving are a son, George of Mellott; two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Myers of Lafayette and Mrs. Virginia Howard of Olivette, Ill.; four brothers, Oney of Mattoon, Ill., Frank of Casey, Ill., Earl of Columbus, Ohio, and Hubert, of St. Louis; four sisters, Mrs. Harrison Jones of Bushton, Ill., Mrs. Hiram Bryant and Mrs. Earl Ingram both of Chester, Ill., and Mrs. Robet Thompson of Plainfield, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Sever Mortuary in Veedersburg with Rev. Charles Kraft officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. - Walt W.
